Attract Birds in Your Area with Bird Food

There are a great many different types of bird food to choose from to attract the feathered beauties indigenous to your area. After extensive consultation with the top experts on all things to do with birds, we have been given a list of the best things you can place in your bird feeders so as to give you a better view of the birds in your area. After you have found out what types of birds reside in your area, choose from the list below of different types of bird food to bring them in closer so that you can better enjoy watching them.

Bird Seed

There are several different types of seed that can be used as bird food. However, it is important that you understand that not all birds will eat the same type of seed. For example, if you want to attract a wide variety of larger birds to your feeders, your best choice of seed may be the black sunflower seed. Using this type of seed as bird food attracts a wide variety of feathered creatures, as well as unwanted squirrels, due to their high meat to shell ratio.

If you want to attract smaller birds like finches or sparrows, to your bird feeders, try a combination of smaller seeds like thistle seed, and millet corn in your feeders. This type of combined bird food attracts these smaller birds quite well; and if you fill your feeders regularly, you will be able to enjoy their songs throughout the entire season.

Bird Food for Insect Eaters

Perhaps the birds in your area aren't seed eaters. Then what do you do? For insect eaters like woodpeckers and nuthatches, a combination of beef suet and peanut butter makes a fine bird food. Keeping this combination available throughout the entire spring and summer seasons, can help to keep your trees and home hole free, as the woodpeckers will be more attracted to the bird food than to your home's walls.

Sugar Nectar

If your favorite bird is the hummingbird, then you should make certain that you keep plenty of sugar nectar available for them. The high energy level of these birds requires them to eat a constant diet of high-sugar bird food, usually flower nectar. By keeping several feeders filled with sugar water (uncolored is best), you can have an entire army of hummingbirds flocking around all year long.

There is a wide variety of bird food to choose from depending on the birds you wish to attract to your home. Choosing the right type of bird food, will help to ensure that you can enjoy a feathered spectacle all year long.
